Multigenerational households— three or more generations under one roof — are on the rise in the U.S.
By the numbers: Just over 17,000 Richmond-area households are multigenerational, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
Chesterfield has the highest share in the metro area at just over 7%, followed by Richmond at 6.7% and Henrico at 6.6%.
Hanover's is 5.2%.
Worth noting: Manassas Park has the highest share of multigenerational households in the state at 12%, while nearby Arlington has one of the lowest, at 3.4%.
