Gallicchio's Market & Eatery opens in Raleigh's Oakwood neighborhood

Driving the news: Gallicchio's first day was Thursday after a number of pop-ups in the space.

• The restaurant is the brainchild of chef Stacy Gallicchio Murphy, who says it is inspired by the types of Italian delis you could find in New England.
• She previously worked at restaurants like Emeril's in New Orleans and chef Ming Tsai's Blue Ginger and Armsby Abbey in Massachusetts.

Zoom in: Walk into the door of Gallicchio's and you will first notice a case of goods filled with pastas, vegetables like broccoli rabe, and take-home meals.

• The menu at the bar lists a variety of salads, pastas and an impressive lineup of sandwiches, including a roasted pork with broccoli rabe, a muffuletta and a meatball sub.
• Everything is made in-house, and special dinners will be held in the future as well.

We tried the roasted pork and broccoli rabe sandwich ($16), which has succulent slow-roasted pork that contrasts nicely with the rabe.
