Cary BBQ restaurant expands to Durham

Between the lines: Dampf Good BBQ has been among the restaurants popularizing Texas barbecue in the land of North Carolina-style pork barbecue.

State of play: The planned arrival of Dampf to Geer Street drew mixed reactions on social media, with users on the Durham subreddit sharing political posts from the owner's Facebook page. Geer Street has long seen pushback to businesses and organizations that have expressed conservative opinions, including a startup church that drew protests due to its stance on same-sex marriage.

• In response, Dampf posted on Instagram to thank "the hundreds of people who have been reaching out with words of support and encouragement."
• "Our faith in Christ is clearly under attack," the restaurant's owners added in the post. "Nothing we do is for our own glory but to the glory of God. The word of God directs my path and shapes my life."
