Steve Belichick is leaving his dad's UNC football staff

Zoom in: Steve Belichick will leave Carolina when a period of medical leave ends on Oct. 27, per the university. He hasn't been on the field this season.

Between the lines: UNC hasn't said what the investigation was about or why Steve Belichick is on medical leave.

What they're saying: University spokesperson Dean Stoyer released what was labeled a "final statement" Thursday morning, saying the investigation into the football program was over.

• "The investigation determined that certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina's values and standards of conduct. The investigation also found that these actions were isolated in scope and not a systemic failure," Stoyer wrote.

Separately, a freshman player charged this week with carrying a concealed handgun following a Chapel Hill traffic stop has been suspended indefinitely.

• Another freshman was driving, and he is out for Saturday's game in Clemson, WRAL reports.

State of play: The Tar Heels are off to a 2-0 start, and look to have improved from last season.

• Bill Belichick ended his first season at UNC with a disappointing 4-8 record.
