Design Within Reach opens a furniture store in North Hills

The furniture store Design Within Reach has made its Triangle debut with a new store now open in North Hills.

Why it matters: It is the company's second location in the state, following Charlotte, and adds to the growing competition for selling home furnishings in North Hills.

In addition to Design Within Reach, North Hills is also home to RH Gallery, Ethan Allen and La Maison.

Driving the news: Design Within Reach opened its 4,790-square-foot store on Aug. 21.

The company sells furniture from brands such as Herman Miller, Knoll, Louis Poulsen, Fritz Hansen, Flos, Gubi and Carl Hansen & Søn.

Zoom in: The company said that a Raleigh store had long been a priority, given the strength of online sales in the region.

"Customers were traveling far distances to visit our Charlotte store, and online sales in the region have been on a strong upward trend," Debbie Propst, president of global retail for MillerKnoll, the parent company of Design Within Reach, said in a statement.
"This hasn't surprised us, considering North Carolina's connection to craftsmanship and furniture-making," she added.
