Billionaire sports investor Marc Lasry also appears interested in Raleigh's bid for a Major League Baseball team — a potentially significant update for the city's viability.
Why it matters: Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has spearheaded North Carolina's existing pursuit of an MLB franchise.
Having two deep-pocketed investors interested could make Raleigh even more attractive as the league prepares to expand from 30 to 32 teams.
State of play: Lasry, a former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, recently invested $40 million into the NC Courage, the area's National Women's Soccer League team.
What they're saying: "I want to be an investor in Raleigh, and I think what we're doing with the Courage and, hopefully, what we can do with Major League Baseball, those opportunities are pretty big," Lasry told WRAL. "It's a market that's going to continue to grow."
