Sylvan Esso is bringing back its Good Moon festival

After a year away, the Durham band Sylvan Esso and its music label Psychic Hotline are bringing back the Good Moon music festival to Durham this fall.
Why it matters: Sylvan Esso has become one of the most well-known acts to emerge out of Durham in the past decade, and it has used its clout to create its own music festival.
- The first edition of Good Moon happened in 2024, but the festival did not happen last year.
Driving the news: This year's version will take place Oct. 8-10, with headlining shows at the Durham Performing Arts Center, as well as other venues across downtown.
Zoom in: Two of the DPAC shows will be dedicated to Sylvan Esso performances, while the third show will be a performance by the popular country singer-songwriter Tyler Childers.
- Additional shows will take place every night after the DPAC performances at venues like The Pinhook, Bay 7 and Boom Club.
- Artists set to perform at the smaller shows include: Rodrigo Amarante, Leenalchi, Tash LC and William Tyler among others.
- Tickets go on sale Thursday.
Between the lines: The festival will also have free programming.
- On Oct. 10, there will be a free daytime concert at the American Tobacco Campus, featuring MJ Lenderman and Woke CountySpeedway, as well as a screening of William Tyler's Time Indefinite music film.
The big picture: The Triangle has been trying to create more music festivals in recent years, and increasingly they have been born out of the successes of local artists.
- J. Cole's Dreamville Festival has brought hundreds of thousands to Raleigh, and Rhiannon Gidden's Biscuits & Banjos festival just had its second edition in Durham.
