One of Durham's newest cafes and cocktail bars is so tucked away, you can't see it from the street.
Why it matters: With around a dozen seats located in the lobby of the art-deco Snow Building, Soif — pronounced like "swaff" — adds a new intimate spot to drink coffee and tea or perhaps a negroni or spritz.
Zoom in: Soif is the second Durham bar from Jesse Gerstl, who started the natural wine bar Delafia on the edge of downtown Durham.
Like Delafia, Soif is a small space that encourages customers to line up at the bar and chat with their barista or a fellow patron lingering with the daily newspaper delivered to the cafe.
Bur rather than natural wine, Soif is built around an espresso machine and a small cocktail menu.
There's also no wifi, which is, in part, meant to make Soif a refuge from work while also encouraging conversations.
What we ordered: A refreshing and iced barley-and-corn tea ($4).
