Construction is underway on downtown Raleigh's future Omni Hotel, putting its opening date at some point in 2028.
Why it matters: The Omni, whose groundbreaking was celebrated by city officials yesterday, has been pitched as a way to boost the Fayetteville Street corridor and support the expansion of the Raleigh Convention Center.
That's why city and Wake County officials agreed to give the development $75 million from Raleigh and Wake County's tourism tax fund.
Zoom in: Here's what will be included in the 29-story tower, which will transform downtown's skyline and become Omni's third hotel in the state:
600 hotel rooms, a 20,000-square-foot ballroom and 61,000 square feet of meeting space to support the convention center.
A coffee shop run by the Raleigh-based clothing brand Peter Millar, featuring coffee from the local roaster Black & White Coffee.
Bob's Steak & Chop House, which will also offer private dining rooms.
A rooftop pool and restaurant.
A sports bar with a golf simulator.
A fitness center featuring saunas and cold plunges.
