👋 Mary Helen here, with an introduction to Eve, a sophisticated new addition to downtown Durham's bar scene.
The spot: Although Eve is the first space by owners Uma Ramiah and Jessica Breland, it doesn't feel like it. The decor is elevated, the drinks are well-made and it's got buzz that stems from a longer presence doing events locally.
🌿 The vibe: The plant-filled lounge opens up onto a wooden bar and a built-in DJ booth. It's lamp-lit and sexy, but the seating is comfortable.
The owners describe it as a "modern garden after dark."
The name Eve comes from the Garden of Eden, and serpent motifs are woven in artfully.
🥃 The drinks: I ordered the Serpentine ($16), a mezcal cocktail incorporating green chile liqueur and sage-lime cordial. It's a balanced, flavorful drink, set off with a smoked salt rim.
The bar manager recommends Angel Numbers ($16), which is made with goji berry-infused gin, white peach soju, eucalyptus honey, yuzu and strawberry yogurt.
🐍 10-word-review: A welcoming spot with a sultry atmosphere and elevated drinks.
