Duke University has settled a lawsuit with its star quarterback Darian Mensah.
Why it matters: The settlement, which was highly watched in the college athletics world, will allow Mensah to enroll in another school — conference rival Miami.
State of play: The lawsuit centered on the enforceability of contracts in the era of NIL and transfers.
Mensah had reportedly signed a two-year, $8 million contract with Duke, and shocked the school earlier this month when he sought to transfer before it expired.
Driving the news: The settlement was announced yesterday morning, but details of the agreement, including whether Duke got a payout, were not immediately available.
What they're saying: "Enforcing ... agreements is a necessary element of ensuring predictability and structure for athletic programs," Duke Athletics said in a statement. "It is nonetheless a difficult choice to pursue legal action against a student and teammate; for this reason, we sought to resolve the matter fairly and quickly."
