RapidScale, a Raleigh-based software company, is adding more downtown office space as it prepares to fill another 100 positions in the coming months.
Why it matters: It's another welcome sign for the downtown Raleigh office market, which is still recovering from the pandemic and a shift to hybrid work.
- RapidScale will fill a floor in the Bloc83 tower at 621 Hillsborough St., a space that had recently been vacated by fellow tech company ShareFile.
- Other notable office leases this year include BuildOps' lease at The Creamery building and LNW Gaming in the One Glenwood building.
Zoom in: Founded in 2008, RapidScale helps companies migrate their operations to the cloud and helps them manage their operations and data securely.
- The company is headquartered in the Pendo tower on Hillsborough Street, where it currently has around 160 employees.
- RapidScale is owned by Cox Enterprises, which also owns Axios.
The big picture: Duane Barnes, the company's president, said its business has been boosted by the company's investment in artificial intelligence and needs more help managing its data.
- It also saw a rise in business when the virtual computing company VMware made RapidScale a preferred partner after VMware was acquired by Broadcom.
What they're saying: "We've always been sort of Raleigh first from a hiring perspective," Barnes told Axios, noting its current office is about 30 seats over capacity.
- "We really felt like it was a good idea to expand locally, and the new office is only two blocks away, so we'll have foot traffic between the two buildings pretty easily."
Between the lines: Barnes said the company is hiring for a range of positions, from project managers and support technicians to cybersecurity roles and AI/machine learning engineers.
