A marathon will start from American Tobacco Campus on May 2.
Durham is getting a new road race next year, one of only three locations announced in Garmin's new marathon series.
Why it matters: The May 2 race will be a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, one of only a handful of qualifying races in the Triangle.
State of play: Garmin is turning the race into a two-day expo for its smartwatches and other products.
The GPS-enabled product maker also announced marathons in Tucson and Toledo.
Zoom in: In Durham, runners will start at American Tobacco Campus, pass by Duke University's East Campus wall, then hit sections of the Tobacco Trail before crossing the finish line at Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium.
There are also 5K, 10K and half-marathon distances planned.
What's next: A few spots are still open in Durham's other Boston-qualifier, the RDC Marathon, held Oct 26.
