The university has had a small presence in Durham, and the new office will include a consolidation of local employees and new hires.
Driving the news: The hub is expected to open in the spring and house its southeast regional operations, education technology and program development functions.
Zoom in: WGU has more than 190,000 students enrolled nationwide, according to the school.
That includes more than 6,000 currently in North Carolina.
The nonprofit school offers degrees and certificates for business, technology, health care and education.
