After much speculation, UNC has released the details of Steve Belichick's contract to become the defensive coordinator for his father, Bill Belichick.
Why it matters: When Belichick, a legend in the NFL, agreed to become the coach, rumors swirled that he negotiated to have Steve be named the coach-in-waiting. That, however, was denied by UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham.
Zoom in: The newly released contract, signed on Aug. 2, just weeks before the start of the season, does not include a clause about becoming the next UNC head coach.
It does outline a $1.3 million base salary, which would rise to $1.4 million in January.
There are also bonuses for reaching a bowl game, finishing the season ranked in the top 25, and winning a national championship.
