GoTriangle's new Raleigh Union Bus Station, often referred to as RUS Bus, will open for service on Aug. 3, the regional transit system announced on Wednesday.
Why it matters: The new station places GoTriangle's bus station — a connecting point between Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Research Triangle Park and other cities — next to Raleigh Union Station, the city's Amtrak station.
City of Raleigh bus service will continue to operate out of the Moore Square station.
Zoom in: RUS Bus has six bays for buses, public bathrooms, waiting areas and bike parking and lockers.
What's next: Rus Bus is just one element of a development being built next to Raleigh Union Station.
GoTriangle picked the Washington, D.C.-based developer Hoffman & Associates to build a mixed-use tower over the station with nearly 400 apartments.
Plans for that tower have been tweaked, however, as Hoffman has struggled to get financing for the site. The developer will no longer include affordable units in the tower, but instead, it is donating $1.5 million to the city's affordable housing fund, INDY Week reported.
