The owners of Raleigh's Neuse River Brewing and a business partner have come together to open Blotto, a new bar on New Bern Avenue in East Raleigh.
Why it matters: Blotto will set up shop just a few blocks from Alamo Drafthouse in one of the fastest-changing parts of Raleigh, especially once the city's bus rapid transit lanes are installed there.
Driving the news: The new bar, which will be owned by Jennifer and Ryan Kolarov (of Neuse River) along with Carl Boyajian, took over the former New Bern Mini Mart.
What they're saying: Ryan Kolorov, who went to the nearby Ligon Magnet Middle School, said he was interested in the location because East Raleigh is where the city's growth is heading.
"We love the Alamo and people complained there was nothing close by to come grab a drink," Kolorov told Axios. "We thought there was a little hole to be filled."
What to expect: He hesitates to describe Blotto as a dive bar. "I don't think you build a dive bar, you sort of get that notoriety later on," he said — but he wants Blotto to become a neighborhood gathering spot.
The bar will focus on having a small set of rotating drafts, bottled beer and cocktails.
They don't plan to serve a full food menu at the bar, but will sell small snacks.
