DA to drop some cases after Raleigh police officer was terminated

State of play: It's the second time in recent months that Freeman's office has had to dismiss cases potentially due to the conduct of the arresting officer.

• Freeman said she is reviewing the cases that involve Epps and noted that defendants are entitled to information about witnesses that could question their truthfulness or bias.

• Already, she promised to dismiss cases that do not "unduly jeopardize public safety."
• "In those cases in which we elect to move forward, prosecutors will notify defense counsel of the existence of the internal investigation, and steps will be taken to secure a court order to make that available to them," Freeman said in a statement.

What's next: The district attorney's office said it remains unclear how long the review process will take.
