The NCAA's two most valuable men's basketball teams are on Tobacco Road, according to a new analysis by Indiana University Columbus professor Ryan Brewer.
Why it matters: The Florida Gators ($121 million) may be this year's national champions, but as No. 31 on the list, they're far from the most valuable, the Wall Street Journal reported in a story about Brewer's analysis. (gift link)
Between the lines: Brewer's analysis aims to put price tags on college teams similar to how a pro team owner might if they were looking to sell.
Driving the news: UNC barely made it into this year's tournament, but it's valued at $378 million — more than any other men's team.
Duke, which came just seconds away from making the championship game, is No. 2 at $370 million.
N.C. State ($140 million) is No. 25.
Zoom out: The most valuable team in women's college basketball is Connecticut ($95 million), which crushed South Carolina ($86 million) in this year's national championship.
Duke's women's team ($43 million) ranks No. 43, and East Carolina ($22 million) came out ahead of UNC ($20 million), ranking 58 compared to the Tar Heels' No. 63.
N.C. State ($6 million), which made it to the Sweet 16 this year, is far down the list at No. 311.
