The Crunkleton sets Raleigh opening date for April 8

The Triangle's big month of restaurant openings continues with the opening of The Crunkleton's first bar and restaurant in Raleigh.

Why it matters: The Crunkleton's original Chapel Hill location, opened in 2008 by Gary Crunkleton, is one of the state's most well-respected bars due to its library of antique spirits and the details it puts into its craft cocktails.

Driving the news: The Crunkleton will open its Raleigh outpost on April 8 in the Smoky Hollow development in downtown Raleigh.

The new bar and restaurant, at 403 W. Johnson St., is open daily from 5pm to 10pm, and until 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

State of play: The Crunkleton's Chapel Hill location does not offer food.

That was something the bar added to its repertoire when it opened a location in Charlotte in 2019 in collaboration with 1957 Hospitality Group.
The Raleigh location, which is also in partnership with 1957, will offer the same food program as its Charlotte location.

What to expect: The kitchen, led by Chef Gregory Balch, will serve raw and charred oysters, table-share tomahawk steaks, burgers and roasted veggies.

A brunch menu is expected to be added in the coming weeks.
The bar will continue to focus on serving Prohibition-era classics, like Manhattans and Sazeracs.
It also plans to frequently host liquor tastings with paired meals.
