Around 50,000 college-educatedAmericans moved to the Triangle in 2023, per the latest census data.
Why it matters: Cities across the country are competing to land these educated workers who can contribute significantly to the local economy by taking jobs with local firms or bringing their higher salaries to the area.
By the numbers: Among Americans age 25 and up with a bachelor's degree or better who moved to a new county in 2023, 6.1% went to NYC, 3.5% to D.C. and 3.2% to Dallas.
The Triangle's share was comparatively tiny — just 0.7% of these degree holders moved to the Raleigh metro and 0.4% to the Durham metro area — but it still meant tens of thousands of new residents for the fast-growing region.
The Raleigh metro area netted around 30,181 new degree holding adults.
