Loretta Boniti, a longtime political anchor and reporter at Spectrum News, announced last week that she's leaving journalism to make the jump into state government.
Why it matters: After 25 years in journalism, most of which was spent covering North Carolina, Boniti will join newly elected Republican Treasurer Brad Briner's team as his strategic communications and media relations director.
"Loretta has earned a reputation as a nonpartisan communicator who excels at getting clear and concise information to the public," Briner said in a release last week.
"I am very excited for her to join the team and use her skills to serve as a conduit between the Department and the people of North Carolina on issues important to their daily lives."
Driving the news: Boniti's last time on air was yesterday when she hosted Spectrum's show Capital Tonight, she said in a LinkedIn post announcing her departure.
