We've obviously got a few days left until it's time to start thinking about getting rid of your Christmas tree, but when the time comes, there are several to make sure it's done sustainably, depending on where you live in the Triangle.
Wake County residents can drop off their live undecorated trees at a local recycling center from Dec. 26 until Jan. 26, 2025. Your tree will be turned into mulch that'll be used in area trails and parks through the Happy Trails Program.
Durham County residents can either leave their live undecorated trees at one of seven free drop-off locations or curbside. Customers can place their trees at the curb on their normal collection day anytime between Jan. 2-Feb. 3.
Orange County residents can place their live undecorated trees curbside on their regularly scheduled yard waste pickup day.
- Disposal of artificial trees can be scheduled via a bulky item collection.
Chatham County is offering free Christmas tree recycling at the Main Facility from Dec. 30 through Jan. 17, Monday through Friday (it's closed New Year's Day). Trees will be accepted Monday through Friday from 7am to 3:30pm at 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro.
