Walk into the Angus Barn over the holidays and you might forget you're at a classic Southern steakhouse. As has been its custom for years, the Raleigh fixture is now a winter wonderland, decked out with thousands of sparkling lights, dazzling ornaments, Christmas trees, regal Nutcrackers, wreaths and festive garlands.
Driving the news: Holiday decorations will be up at the Angus Barn through Jan. 26.
Yes, but: Reservations are full now until Dec. 31, according to the restaurant. But you can come out any night and put your name on the waitlist.
Flashback: For years, holiday decor at the Angus Barn was simple, comprising a couple of trees, WRAL reported.
- Current owner Van Eure and her sister Shelley Belk decided to shake up the restaurant's holiday decor tradition after their mother, Alice, died in 1997. Their father, Thad Eure Jr., who founded the restaurant with the help of his father in 1960, had died about nine years earlier.
- The sisters drew inspiration from resorts like the Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn and The Greenbrier in West Virginia. "We started small, and then, it just grew and grew and grew," Eure said, per WRAL.
