Driving the news: Rahman and Shanahan, who also co-owns the downtown bar Watts & Ward, will open Peregrine early next year at 1000 Social St.

What to expect: The menu will follow Rahman's own life journey, from his grandmother's cooking in Bangladesh to the global influences that existed in his childhood home of Queens and the culinary training he got in France.

• It will also include touchstones from the Mexican heritage of his wife and the food traditions from North Carolina.
• Some of the signature dishes will be a Bengali fish curry that is an ode to his grandmother Amina and crispy lentil fritters that were a common street food snack his grandfather bought him during Ramadan.

Details: The 4,000-square-foot restaurant, designed by Shanahan, will have room for 100 guests.
