Raleigh Police arrest 23-year-old man in relation to string of shootings along Interstate 40

The Raleigh Police Department have charged a 23-year-old man in connection with a string of shootings along Interstate 40 over the past four days in the southwestern part of Raleigh.
Why it matters: At least a dozen shootings occurred along the I-40 corridor, striking eight vehicles and four buildings — and leaving one woman hospitalized and the community on edge.
- All of the shootings are connected, police confirmed on Thursday.
- No fatalities were reported.
Driving the news: The Raleigh Police said early Friday morning that it had charged Andrew Thomas Graney, 23, with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and eleven counts of firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle or dwelling.
- Graney was taken into custody at Kentford Court in southwestern Raleigh, a neighborhood near the shootings. Another person who was detained along with Graney was released with no charges.
- WRAL reported that Graney was a senior at N.C. State University.
The latest timeline: The first shooting happened on Monday near Cary Towne Boulevard on Interstate 40, when a woman driving her car was shot in the leg.
- Another car was struck on Monday near Buck Jones Road, Raleigh Police said.
On Wednesday, four more cars were hit by gunfire between the hours of 5am and 7am at Trinity Road, Avent Ferry Road and Cary Towne Boulevard near I-40 as well as Jones Franklin Road.
- No injuries were reported.
- Also on Wednesday, four homes were struck by bullets at the 2400 block of Centennial Ridge Way, the 3200 block of Shire Lane and two places at the 2000 block of Wolf Tech Lane.
- Raleigh Police said they would keep their increased presence in the area.
On Thursday at 9am, two cars near the 1500 block of Trailwood Drive were also struck, an area between N.C. State's Centennial Campus and I-40, according to Raleigh Police.
Zoom in: Raleigh police said at a press conference on Wednesday it believes the shootings on Monday and Wednesday were done with a handgun and are asking for people driving at those times to send in dash cam footage if they have it.
- Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said Thursday it wasn't yet known if the shootings were done by someone on foot or from a car.
Threat level: Patterson asked residents to continue sending any information they may have about the incidents and said police presence in the area would remain elevated.
- RPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information and is asking that information be sent to Crime Stoppers at 919-996-3335.
- "While we are following up on every investigative lead and utilizing our best data and intelligence, we will continue to implore the community that if you can recall anything, if you have seen anything that might be valuable to this investigation ... please call us," she said.
