North Hills' newest restaurant is first a feast for the eyes.
- Tamasha Modern Indian's bold design choices — from the silvery sculpture hanging delicately from the ceiling to the carriage-like booths and marble cocktail bar — leap out as soon as you open the door.
State of play: Owners Mike Kathrani and Tina Vora believe Tamasha will fill a hole in the Triangle's dining scene.
- The couple — who also own the Vora Salon & Spa in Cary — say the region is lacking in upscale Indian restaurants.
- They've hired chef Bhavin Chhatwani who has experience with similar concepts, like the Taj Campton Place in San Francisco.
- Tamasha even advertises a dress code policy, advising eaters to wear business casual and avoid athletic shoes or flip flops.
Driving the news: So far, diners have responded with high interest.
- Two weeks after opening in the bottom of the Advance Auto Parts tower, reservations are hard to find. Kathrani said the restaurant's first two months are booked.
- That can make a huge atmospheric difference, with crowded tables and patrons waiting for cocktails at the bar, bringing high energy to Tamasha's dining room.

On the menu, which will evolve over time, you will find classic dishes such as Hyderabadi dum biryani, butter chicken, dahi kebabs and tandoori paneer tikka.
- For less traditional diners, there's the Oyster 65, a southern Indian dish that typically uses fried chicken but has been replaced with fried oysters.
- There's also the flavor-packed pork belly boa featuring Kerala spices and chili shrimp.
- The standout chaat selection pairs ingredients like crispy okra and puffed flat rice or purple sweet potato and crunchy kale.
- And rounding it all out is a selection of sorbets and gelatos.
The bottom line: Tamasha adds an exciting new kitchen and upscale experience to the ever-growing North Hills neighborhood.
