The flight changing how Phoenix connects to Asia

A message from: STARLUX Airlines

Phoenix now has a nonstop connection to Taipei, expanding direct access from the U.S. Southwest to Asia.
Why it's important: The route closes a long-standing gap in Phoenix's air service to Asia, even as the region's economy and Asia-Pacific ties have continued to grow.
- That shift strengthens cross-Pacific connectivity, while giving travelers more direct access to key global destinations through Phoenix.
The details: The new service, operated by STARLUX Airlines, connects Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport directly to the airline's hub at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, one of Asia's most efficient transfer points.
- From there, passengers can connect onward to 26 destinations across the Asia-Pacific region, including Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, Vietnam and Hong Kong, as well as other key destinations across East and Southeast Asia.
- Flights are currently operating three times weekly — Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays — with a fourth Saturday flight to be added starting in March 2026.
The route marks STARLUX's fifth U.S. destination and its first in the American Southwest.
What this means: Phoenix travelers no longer need to transfer to fly to Taipei, reducing travel time, streamlining connections and making Phoenix a true gateway — and that reach extends well beyond the Valley.
- Through STARLUX's partnerships with American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, travelers from more than 40 U.S. cities can connect through Phoenix onto the Taipei flight, reinforcing Sky Harbor's role as a growing international connector.
Worth a mention: STARLUX, a Taiwan-based airline, prioritizes long-haul routes where premium service, efficiency and safety matter most.
- Founded on the idea that luxury should be accessible, the airline reflects that philosophy through its aircraft selection, onboard service and route planning.
- STARLUX also holds Skytrax 5-Star Airline status, APEX Five Star Global Airline Awards and a 7-Star PLUS Safety Rating from AirlineRatings, placing it among the most highly rated carriers worldwide.
The benefits: For long-haul travelers, that emphasis translates into a more comfortable onboard experience, including:
- Spacious cabin layouts with calming design cues.
- High-definition personal screens and noise-canceling headphones across cabins.
- Elevated onboard dining paired with curated wine selections.
- First and business class fully-flat beds designed for uninterrupted rest.
An expert take: "This is a milestone event for the City of Phoenix," said Mayor Kate Gallego.
- STARLUX's new service "further strengthens Phoenix's position as a global city and builds upon our partnership with one of Asia's most dynamic and vital economies," opening the door to "expanded tourism, stronger business relationships and new opportunities for companies looking to invest in our fast-growing and vibrant region."
The takeaway: The Phoenix-Taipei nonstop brings the city's air connectivity in line with its economic reality, strengthening the Valley's position as a growing gateway between the U.S. Southwest and Asia-Pacific markets.
- The city has been ready for this connection. Now the airport is, too.
