The Valley went nuts over Pokemon cards on Wednesday

• Big box stores around the Phoenix area were already out of stock of the 30th celebration packs by Wednesday afternoon, as social media users dished about early-morning lines at Target and pleaded for any intel on where to find cards.

What's the big deal? Demand for Pokemon cards has skyrocketed in the last few years, says Cody Sheridan, the manager of Samurai Comics on Indian School Road in Phoenix — thanks in part to "people who are trying to make money off of it."

• A "booster bundle" contains six packs of five cards each and goes for about $32 but was already being resold Wednesday afternoon for more than double that price.

State of play: There are still 30th anniversary cards to be found around the Valley, especially at smaller shops.

• As of Wednesday, Samurai Comics hadn't put out its stock of the new cards.
• Just down the street, Collectors Marketplace still had packs available and probably won't sell out until this weekend, store manager Bailey Hill says.

Pro tip: If you're still looking for cards, Sheridan suggests calling your local card or comic book shop.

• To deter speculators, Samurai Comics may not even announce when its stock is available, and will limit customers to one item per purchase.
