Gilbert mourns Spring, Arizona's first arson detection dog

• She was 15 years old when she died.

Catch up quick: Gilbert began partnering with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for accelerant detection canines in 2012.

• It's the only agency in the state that participates in the ATF program, which provides training and the pup, as well as certification for its handler.

Last month, Gilbert announced in December that Xanadu, the department's third accelerant-sniffing dog through its ATF partnership, had joined the force.
