Trump double-endorses Swoboda and Feely in competitive Arizona House race

State of play: Trump announced the dual endorsement on Truth Social on Tuesday, calling Feely and Swoboda "Highly Respected America First Patriots."

• "Both fierce advocates of Make America Great Again, Jay and Gina have been with us from the very beginning, and either one would be an incredible Representative," Trump said.

The intrigue: Swoboda, the Arizona Republican Party chair, jumped into the race with an endorsement from Trump after GOP incumbent David Schweikert switched to the governor's race.

• Feely, a former Arizona Cardinals kicker, was running in the East Valley's 5th Congressional District but pivoted to CD1 after Trump endorsed former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb and urged Feely to find another race.

What they're saying: "I am proud to have President Trump's full endorsement in my campaign to defend Arizona's 1st District — one of the most critical seats that will decide the House majority," Feely said on X.

• Swoboda campaign spokesperson Chris Baker took a swipe at Feely for switching districts, telling Axios, "We wish Gilbert resident Jay Feely well in his latest campaign for Congress, but nothing has changed, Gina Swoboda will be the Republican nominee in AZ01."

Zoom in: State Rep. Joseph Chaplik (R-Scottsdale), a member of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, and businessman John Trobough are among the other Republicans running in CD1.

The other side: Several Democrats are running for the now-open seat, including 2024 contenders Marlene Galán-Woods and Amish Shah, who lost to Schweikert in the last election, along with Mark Robert Gordon, Rick McCartney and Jonathan Treble.
