Funky Frida's opens soon with bold colors and Mexican bites

• "We decided to do something funky, something fresh," operations manager Mike Garnel said, telling Axios that Frida's aims to have a fun, late-night atmosphere.

Zoom in: The decor is a kaleidoscope of color, with lights in bottles and a disco ball hanging from a ceiling that is covered in artwork.

• The walls feature garden-themed designs, bright glass tiles and, as the cantina's name implies, portraits of Kahlo.

What's new: The menu consists of Mexican dishes and takes a sharp turn from neighboring OHSO paired with a slate of new drinks and, of course, frosty margaritas.

• Plus, you can still get some of your favorite beers from OHSO.

What's next: Funky Frida's opens Oct. 15 next to OHSO's flagship brewpub at 4900 E. Indian School Road.

• Prior to the opening, the cantina is offering reservation-only tastings Wednesday through Sunday, though Garnel said those spots are filling up quickly.
