The Phoenix Mercury notched two home game wins against the Minnesota Lynx over the weekend, propelling them to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2021.
Why it matters: The Mercury, who underwent a massive rebuild in the offseason, were playoff underdogs but knocked off both of last year's Finals teams (the Lynx and the New York Liberty) in the first two rounds.
Zoom in: The team's Big 3 — Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper — each had stunning performances at PHX Arena on Friday and last night.
Meanwhile, Mercury veteran DeWanna Bonner tied retired All-Star and current Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon's record as the second all-time leader in playoff three-pointers. They trail only Mercury legend Diana Taurasi, who retired last season.
What's next: The Mercury now await the outcome of tomorrow night's Aces and Indiana Fever matchup.
If the Fever win, the first two Finals games will be in Phoenix. If the Aces win, the series will start in Las Vegas.
