Bite Club: Ace of Wingz brings a unique twist to classic chicken wings

• The restaurant recently announced a second spot, slated to open July 4 at 3923 E. Thomas Road.
• While the original is take-out only — if you're determined to eat there, like I was, they've got a folding table out front — the second restaurant will include dine-in service, per the Phoenix New Times.

• Sure, you can go with traditional flavors like Buffalo and BBQ, but you also try unconventional sauces like hot apricot, raspberry and pineapple.
• "One day, I looked at traditional chicken wings and thought, 'Why do they all look the same?' I wanted to change that narrative," chef Abion Acoy told the New Times.
• And try loaded fries with many of the same sauces, fried seafood and more.

Best bites: Since spicy, fruity flavors seemed to be a specialty, I ordered half my wings with the hot strawberry sauce, and got lemon pepper for the other half.

• I also snagged an order of the loaded elote fries.
• I wasn't sure what to expect, but the wings were delicious, giving you the full fruit flavor without being overly sweet. Not as spicy as I would've liked, but great nonetheless.
• The fries were great, too — a perfect blend of two great snacks.
