On International Workers' Day today, tens of thousands of protesters across the U.S. will rally against what organizer's call President Trump's "war on working people."
Why it matters: Protests against the Trump administration have built momentum as he faces sinking approval ratings and Americans increasingly witness the ramifications of his policies.
- Today's events will include rallies, marches, town halls and other actions against the "billionaire takeover" of the federal government.
Zoom in: In Arizona, protests are planned for Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff, among other locations.
- Participants plan to gather at the state Capitol at 9am for a march to the Sandra Day O'Connor U.S. Courthouse.
What they're saying: "Together, we march for fair wages, safe working conditions, the right to organize, and a future where all workers — regardless of immigration status, race, or gender — are treated with dignity and respect," Arizona AFL-CIO leader Fred Yamashita said in a statement.
- Arizona Education Association president Marisol Garcia called it "a crucial time in American history," saying "educators across Arizona — teachers and school bus drivers and classroom aides and more — will be rising up."
By the numbers: More than 70,000 protesters are expected nationwide, according to organizers.
- And over 1,100 events are scheduled in nearly 1,000 cities across all 50 states.
