City and community leaders on Saturday celebrated the completion of the third phase of a long-running project to improve the Grand Canal in Maryvale.
State of play: Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, City Council Member Betty Guardado and more than 100 others gathered for a ribbon-cutting and first crossing of the new pedestrian bridge over the canal at 63rd Avenue.
Phase 3 of the project covered the length of the canal from 47th to 75th avenues.
It includes the pedestrian bridge, paved walkways, lighting, landscaping, public art, neighborhood access points and crosswalks with signals across streets.
