Arizona's minimum wage is $14.70 per hour after a 35-cent inflation adjustment kicked in on Jan. 1.
Why it matters: While the state now has the 11th-highest minimum wage, Arizona's median pay still lags the national median, The Arizona Republic reports.
How it works: Arizona voters in 2016 overwhelmingly passed Prop. 206, which required employers to increase the minimum wage to $12 by 2020 (it was $8.05 in 2016).
The ballot initiative also mandated annual cost-of-living adjustments, which is why the rate increased this year.
