Mister Pio serves up succulent Peruvian rotisserie chicken

• The restaurant opened in late October at 4502 E. Thomas Rd. 

Zoom in: You can get a quarter or half bird, seasoned for two days with 21 spices, and grilled to order over charcoal. 

• And wash it all down with a bottle of Peru's favorite soda, Inca Kola.

Context: I visited Peru nearly a decade ago and fell in love with the food. 

• So when I heard about the new Peruvian chicken place, I rushed out to Mister Pio as soon as I could.

Best bites: The chicken was as good as I'd hoped — very juicy and tender, and the seasoning had a little zing.

• Mister Pio gives you a side of dipping sauce to go with your chicken. Naturally, I went with the hotter option — and it's delicious. But the chicken's blend of seasoning speaks for itself. 
• The fries are as good as you'll find anywhere, thick and crispy.
• I couldn't help getting an Inca Kola with my meal. The cream soda-style flavor made for a good pairing. 

The bottom line: If you're looking for classic Peruvian dishes like lomo saltado, you'll have to go elsewhere — I'd always recommend El Chullo. But if you want some outstanding rotisserie chicken, try Mister Pio.
