Big-time recruits give Sun Devils a new talent infusion

• The Big 12 starts the season with six top-25 teams and five in the top 10.

Yes, but: Going into his 10th season as ASU's head coach, Bobby Hurley has put together one of the top recruiting classes in the country, headlined by five-star center Jayden Quaintance, who decommitted from juggernaut Kentucky after head coach John Calipari went to Arkansas.

• ASU is also expected to get a boost from another recruit, blue-chip forward Joson Sanon and forward Amier Ali.
• The team gets more than just a great recruit with Sanon — it gets bragging rights after he decommitted from the University of Arizona to play in Tempe.

Zoom in: Ali, Quaintance and Sanon are among nine new names on ASU's roster.

• The transfer portal also contributed to the Sun Devils' overhaul, with guards BJ Freeman and Alston Mason joining in the offseason.

Catch up quick: ASU is coming off a disappointing final season in the Pac-12, tying with Stanford for second-to-last in the conference.

• The Sun Devils are only one year removed from their last March Madness appearance, though.

The intrigue: Duke trounced ASU 103-47 last week in the Brotherhood Run charity exhibition game, which Hurley called a "big wake-up call."

What they're saying: "I walk out of here feeling very good most days, just knowing the upside of the potential of the group and just a matter of them adapting to a new way of doing things," Hurley told The State Press.

What's next: ASU kicks off the new season at home Tuesday against Idaho State.
