Sky Harbor sees fewer complaints than most big airports, but grievances are on the rise, per data from the Transportation Security Administration.

The big picture: Air passengers nationwide are reporting complaints at a higher rate than before the pandemic, according to an analysis by the Data Liberation Project.

By the numbers: Travelers filed 11.7 complaints per 100,000 passengers at PHX in January compared to a rate of about 5 during the same month in 2019.

  • That was a bigger jump than the national rate, which went from 13 to nearly 17.

Zoom in: The analysis found TSA Precheck was the subject of the vast majority of Arizonans' gripes, with 1,912 complaints registered from January 2023 through January 2024.

  • Other complaints related to customer service (325), screening (234) and property handling (119).

Zoom out: Newark Liberty International had the nation's highest complaint rate at 36.2.
