LSU-Ole Miss: Trash talk, trolls and a record crowd

The big picture: Our group chats and social feeds have looked very different the past few days.

• These are a few of the highlights that made us chuckle or shake our heads.

😆 The hijinks:

• An LSU pilot wrote "Geaux Tigers" with his flight path. He was responding to an Oxford-based pilot who previously wrote "Come to the Sip."
• So many jokes (from Ole Miss fans) about corn dogs and Lane Kiffin's loyalty.

• Planes were flying "Daddy's back" and "Coach Lame Sucks" banners over the stadium before the game.

🎉 The atmosphere:

• Ole Miss set a new attendance record at the stadium — 70,033.
• Oxford expected about 300,000 people for the weekend, about double a typical home game.
• The Grove was groving with chandeliers, a hanging tiger and hundreds of trash cans. We loved seeing the high school band students' strategy for removing the garbage.
• Ole Miss fans did their own take on the NSFW "Neck" chant after the win. They also played "Calling Baton Rouge."

🚔 The security:

• Ole Miss had the largest police presence "in our history," according to Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, who shot down rumors he was sending in the National Guard.
• Louisiana State Police were there, but NOPD declined a request to send mounted patrols.

👥 The people:

• "College GameDay" was in the Grove, with Morgan Freeman as the guest picker.
• Of course Gov. Jeff Landry was there — with his purple-and-gold sneakers.

👀 The fallout: Ole Miss skyrocketed to No. 4, while LSU dropped to No. 10 in the AP rankings.

• Kiffin says he's glad the game's over, but he didn't miss the opportunity to troll Ole Miss over the game attendance — "You're welcome."

🏈 The bottom line: Something we can both agree on at Axios New Orleans — the Saints! How about that win, baby?! The first home game of the season is this Sunday.
