LSU launches free AI literacy course online

The big picture: The Labor Department previously launched its own AI literacy course specifically "for Americans who may be a little fearful of or unsure about AI" as the Trump administration responds to AI-driven economic pressure.

Zoom in: AI literacy doesn't exactly teach someone to tell deepfakes from real content, says Nihar Sreepada, the co-director of the Manship School of Mass Communication's AI and Misinformation Lab at LSU.

• "AI literacy is about making sure that we can think for ourselves, we can be critical," he says. "We need to look at what what source [something is] coming from, who's paying for it, what it's trying to persuade us about. … That is different from not trusting."

How it works: LSU's course offers a general introduction to the tech and "how to use it effectively, professionally and ethically," a press release says.
