Louisiana cyclosporiasis rates rise

Louisiana has 79 confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis, health officials told WAFB, which is well above historic norms.
The big picture: Although some cases of the diarrhea-inducing illness are reported each year, 2026 will be the worst year on record in the U.S. for this food-borne parasitic infection, CDC data shows.
The intrigue: Investigations continue to center on contaminated iceberg lettuce as a source for the outbreak.
Between the lines: The CDC is also aware of at least 7,400 cases that have not yet been lab-confirmed.
