Commander's Palace added a new 25-cent martini to its signature lunch menu this week.
Why it matters: It's the first time in more than a decade that the classic New Orleans restaurant has updated its martinis.
The big picture: The Vapors is in honor of Adelaide Brennan's "vapors remedy," a hangover cure that involved a handkerchief, a few drops of her favorite perfume, and ether, among other things, co-owner Ti Martin said at lunch Thursday.
- Bar manager Johnisha Williams created the new purple martini with vodka, triple sec, black raspberry, cranberry juice and lime.
- It joins the restaurant's four other martinis: Classic (clear), Commander's (blue), Cosmopolitan (pink) and Ray's Melon (green).
- The restaurant still caps its 25-cent martinis at three per person because "that's enough," as the menu says.
Zoom out: Commander's recreated Brennan's "vapors remedy" sans ether for a Tales of the Cocktail lunch Thursday, passing out tiny bottles with the recipe written on a cocktail napkin.
- "Dip a handkerchief in it and waft it in front of your nose every 5 minutes," the note says. "It helps if you keep the blinds closed."
