New Orleans' biggest parade weekend is here, and we've got our eyes on some pretty sweet throws that Mardi Gras krewes are tossing this year.
Why it matters: Sure, you can elbow somebody out of the way for a Cleopatra cup, but it's a lot easier to aim for the things float riders will stock in bulk.
State of play: The rise of environmentally conscious, reusable throws has resulted in some incredibly thoughtful and useful finds along the parade route in recent years.
- Dish towels Chelsea caught several years ago from Muses, for example, are still in rotation at her house. (They're back this year, too.)
- Carlie enjoys her wearable throws โ glass beads, King Arthur hats, Tucks capes, wigs, random headbands โ all year.
Here are some throws Mardi Gras krewes have already teased for 2026, and which we hope to snag on the route:
๐ Muses is throwing duck-shaped hair clips, travel jewelry boxes, stadium purses and cute sticky notes.
- Between the lines: Riders can only bring 30 shoes each.
๐ Iris' sunglass game is always very strong, but we're also eyeing a festival blanket and their Hubig's pies.
๐ Bacchus has socks, shirts, puzzles, kitchen tools and a sunshade for your windshield.
๐งข Thoth has great festival gear, too, with this hat.
๐ Rex gave us a throw preview that included some beautiful greeting cards, herb-growing kits and fresh coffee from Grounds Krewe.
The intrigue: Krewes have gotten in trouble this year for what they throw and how they throw it.
- Carrollton is doing an internal investigation after some riders aggressively threw beads at officers.
- Then, City Council President JP Morrell on Wednesday said Freret threw branded koozies for a THC drink. It was part of his social media video about "bad behavior" from krewes.
- Freret's captain said he's "embarrassed" after the "unauthorized koozie" was thrown during the parade. Commercials throws are banned.
What's next: Custom throws always get attention after the parades.
- We're already loving this Super Bowl grass people plunger Glitterella made for Tucks. Mardi Grass if you will.
- We can't wait to see what everyone's been crafting.
