Want to bring a taste of New Orleans with you on the plane? Here are TSA's rules for flying with king cake, daiquiris and other food items.
Why it matters: Because it's Mardi Gras and we want to be New Orleanians wherever we are.
The fine print: These rules are for domestic flights. Check customs if you're flying internationally.
🎉 King cake: Can go in carry-on or checked luggage. Airlines may count it as your personal item if you carry the box onto the plane in your hands.
- Reminder — the knife stays OUT of the box if you are flying.
🍤 Muffaletta and poboys: Can go in carry-on or checked bags.
🥤 Daiquiris: Nope, you can't bring your open container through security or onto the plane.
🌶️ Hot sauce: Bottles 3.4 ounces and smaller can go in your carry-on. Anything bigger must be checked.
☕️ Coffee beans: OK in checked and carry-on bags, but TSA says it might require extra screening.
🧂 Spices: OK in checked and carry-on bags, but may require extra screening if over 12 ounces.

🫘 Canned red beans: These may get flagged at security, so TSA suggests putting them in your checked bag.
