New Orleans shines in Netflix's latest rom-com hit

"People We Meet on Vacation," a romantic comedy shot in New Orleans, is a Netflix hit, holding onto its top 10 status for another week on the streaming platform.

Why it matters: We love when New Orleans gets to shine on-screen — even if we have to pretend to be Ohio.

The big picture: The movie is based on Emily Henry's bestselling book about two best friends who go on summer vacation together every year.

It has been watched more than 40 million times since debuting Jan. 9, Netflix says.

Wyck Godfrey, a native New Orleanian, produced the film, The Advocate reports.

Zoom in: The movie was filmed in New Orleans and Spain in 2024.

Part of the film is clearly set in New Orleans, with scenes featuring the French Quarter, Jackson Square, Bamboula's, Domilise's and Café Du Monde.
In others, New Orleans fills in for an Ohio neighborhood — but you can't fool us with that wide neutral ground and broken sidewalk.
