The Winter Light Festival features dozens of different lighted figurines, including this gaggle of ducklings. Video: Chelsea Brasted/Axios
👋 Chelsea here. My family recently visited the Winter Light Festival that's taken over a section of Bayou Segnette State Park through early January.
Zoom in: This isn't a holiday-themed event like Celebration in the Oaks.
Instead, the Chinese lantern installation includes figures of ducklings, dinosaurs, butterflies, snails and lots of fantastical and folkloric creatures to explore. Plus, there's a short acrobatics show on a tented stage at the center.
It was a fun way to spend about two hours, and my daughter is still asking to go back to see the dinosaurs.
Pro tip: Bring bug spray. We arrived as the sun set and the mosquitos descended with a vengeance.
