Three Louisianans made Forbes' list of the richest people in America.
- Two live in New Orleans.
The big picture: Todd Graves retains his title as the richest person in Louisiana.
- He's followed by Gayle Benson and William Goldring, Forbes says.
- Americans needed a net worth of at least $3.8 billion to make this year's cut — a new record as the rich got richer, Forbes says.
- Elon Musk came in at No. 1, followed by Oracle's Larry Ellison, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Google's Larry Page, Forbes says.

Todd Graves
Graves, 53, is the 46th richest person in America as of Sept. 9. He's worth an estimated $22 billion, a big leap from $9.5 billion last year, Forbes says.
- The Baton Rouge resident founded Raising Cane's nearly 30 years ago and remains the CEO.

Gayle Benson
Benson, 78, is ranked No. 176 in the country. She continues to grow her wealth and is worth an estimated $7.9 billion, up from $6.6 billion last year.
- She lives in New Orleans and owns the Saints and the Pelicans. She's the first woman to be the principal owner of both an NFL and an NBA team.
- Benson grew up in Old Algiers. She previously worked in jewelry sales, real estate development and interior design, according to her official bio.
William Goldring
Goldring, 82, lives in New Orleans and is worth an estimated $6 billion, Forbes says. He's the 246th richest person in the country.
- The Tulane grad is the chairman of the Sazerac Co., which owns about 500 alcohol brands and a dozen distilleries around the world. Go deeper
- His brands include Pappy Van Winkle, Southern Comfort, Buffalo Trace and Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. Last year, his company bought the BuzzBallz line, Forbes says.
