Where kids eat free this summer

The big picture: Louisiana officials opted the state into a summer food stamp program that gives families a one-time payment of $120 per eligible child.

Yes, but: That's not enough to make up the difference, some say.

• "This is the main motivation behind what we're doing. Our government is giving out crumbs and calling it resources," said Marlon "Chicken" Williams at Chicken's Kitchen, posting to Instagram and highlighting the SUN Bucks program.
• As an example, he did the math, he wrote, and figured out he couldn't make it through all the meals of summer for $120 even if he was using wholesale prices through his restaurant.
• "We can talk about it, we can get mad about it AND we can do something about it!!" he said.

Zoom in: Williams is offering kids ages 2 to 15 free breakfast and lunch at either Chicken's Kitchen or Chicken's Coop, with no purchase necessary, all summer.

• La Tia Cantina also has a free meal for kids this summer, Mondays to Thursdays, with purchase of an entree.
